Oblivious - New Works by Nigel Cox at Gallery 8‏

Painter Nigel Cox minimalist style has earned him many fans, including Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who commissioned him to do the only portrait to date of the explorer, and legendary dancer Carlos Acosta.

Now the artist’s new show, Oblivious, opens on 12 November, with an open preview in association with the Terence Higgins Trust.

Cox’s background is one of adventure - he took part in the first circumnavigation of the globe along the Greenwich Meridian via land, sea and ice with Sir Ranulph. Oblivious references the subjects and our own frequent obliviousness to the world around us. Cox often paints his figures from a viewpoint where no face is visible and portrays them against a vague, vast, empty landscape. A deliberate move, designed to focus the full attention on the figure.

Cox paints primarily in oil on linen, building up thin layers of precise paint, developing depth and detail, and bringing an important warmth to the work. The resulting paintings are smooth to the touch and glow with a subtle inner light and life.

A limited edition of two specially selected prints, “Flash” and “Spiderman”will be released on the night, with all proceeds of the price (£150) going to the Trust.

Open from Wednesday 12 November 2014 until Saturday 22nd November 2014, 1100 until 1900 everyday.

Open preview Wednesday 12 November 2014
Gallery 8, 8 Duke Street, St James's, London SW1Y 6BN.

Mike Perry’s My Mother Caught Me Doodling Show

My Mother Caught Me Doodling is a new exhibition and book by prolific daydreamer Mike Perry that looks at the awe-inspiring naked female form.

Throughout November, Mike will adorn the walls of KK Outlet with original female nudes, painted and drawn in bright colors and spontaneous energy. They are nudes conjured not from chilly life drawing classes, but from the recesses of Mike’s mind, the internet or old glamour magazines. However, far from being seedy, these girls have attitude. They revel in their natural state with humour, inviting you to look at them without being ashamed.

The result is a collection of new work and book of the same name that absolutely celebrate the female form in all its phenomenal glory.

Mike Perry’s My Mother Caught Me Doodling book is out now and available through Belly Kids.

Launch Party: Thursday 6 November, 7-9pm
Exhibition Runs: 7 – 27 November 2014.

Spraying Bricks with CYRCLE in London

Back in February this year Spraying Bricks had the privilege of meeting two crazy Cali dudes...Rabi and Davey, aka Doug and Doug from art collective CYRCLE. Having just come fresh from PowWow Hawaii it was no surprise that the British weather was a shock to the system. This particular piece was painted over the course of 5 days and nights to mark the launch of their recent show OVERTHRONE, at Stolen Space Gallery early on in the year. The image depicts the statue 'Rape of Polyxena' by Pio Fedi.

CYRLCE take oppressive imagery to create hope and inspiration. Revealing complex ideologies in their simple forms, CYRCLE are combining the aesthetic of classic romanticism with alchemical symbolism. They strive to highlighting dark areas of society and playfully exposing those grey areas of life.

Ludo Presents The Chaos Theory At Lazarides Rathbone

Parisian artist Ludo makes his UK solo debut this October with The Chaos Theory. Taking over Lazarides Rathbone's first floor exhibition space the artist constructs a surreal world of mechanical hybrids and flora and fauna inspired artwork.
Following a solo exhibition in New York and exterior installation across Georges Pompidou's square earlier this year, Lazarides is thrilled to present a comprehensive new body of work by the French artist. Exploring the realms of technology and nature, Ludo carefully constructs war-like mechanical creatures and anatomical depictions with bold technical precision. The artist's meticulous ultra-modern canvases illustrate themes of dissolute time and resolute chaos, striving to represent an accelerated pace of life in which human contact is increasingly cut off by advanced technology. Frail and ephemeral creatures with fleeting flights are reincarnated into futuristic hybrids, pertaining a transformed sense of durability and strength reminiscent of combat weaponry

Exhibition dates
The exhibition runs from 10th October 2014 to 13th November 2014
Opening hours

Gallery : Tuesday–Saturday 11am–7pm. Admission is free
Lazarides Rathbone First Floor 11 Rathbone Place, London, W1T 1HR

‘Aqua Regalia' Faith47

Moniker Projects is proud to present ‘Aqua Regalia,’ a London solo exhibition with internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, Faith47.

Aqua Regalia or ‘royal water’ is the alchemical name for a highly corrosive mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acid that transmogrifies, dissolves and changes the most powerful substance – gold.

In Aqua Regalia, the artist embeds found and created objects in an enshrined space and thus, in a manner of the reliquary, pays homage to the sacramental within the ordinary. Torn up begging cards, betting sheets, discarded eviction notices suggest the fall-out of a lost struggle, while visions of supplicants insist upon the power of faith. Eclectic in its mash-up of art as fetish and art as rebooted trash object, it reprises the core question which drives the artist at odds with the cynical neo-liberal force at work today. Such affinities and discordances between hope, yearning and faith seek to restore value and re-inscribe new meaning to the rejected, discarded, the lost or the overlooked.

Along with these found objects are pictorial representations of incarnated divinity: animals, sacred geometry and other symbols. The question is – does the experience attest to the power of things over and above the human apprehension of them, or if the experience compels us to reconsider the object as indivisibly connected to the divine? If the viewer remains unclear it is because this exhibition arrives at a point in history in which it has become impossible to decipher a future, interpret history, let alone grasp the present.

By combining found objects and art-incarnate thoughts, Aqua Regalia presents an immersive experience as much as a viewing. In this sacred space, Faith47 asks us to reconsider, and feel the hidden embattled role of the spirit in a secular realm.

Opening Reception: 9th October 2014 / 6pm to 9pm
Exhibition on display: 10th – 19th October 2014 / 11am to 7pm daily
Exhibition open until 9pm on the 16th and 18th of October to celebrate Moniker Art Fair 2014.

"Oblivion" a solo exhibition by Dan K

London Westbank Gallery presents: “Oblivion” a solo exhibition by street artist Dan K. Constantly challenging himself with both subject-matter and technique, and with a hatred to sticking to one thing for too long, Dan K’s work is bold, exciting, fresh and not easy to categorize. It's the unpredictability of Dan's work that excites London Westbank Gallery and  his blend of graffiti and fine art styles which creates art that really works on canvas, inside the gallery.

Here's what Dan K had to say about the upcoming show.
“The show oblivion is a personal exploration of recent times in my life which have been extremely traumatic and catastrophic. The show title “Oblivion” reflects the apocalyptic nature of the ideas behind the works; thinking the world was ending, being trapped in a personal hell, with pain and torment, standing on the edge of the abyss....Explosive, gestural swathes of fire and colour erupt from the canvases, like hellish volcanoes, with lava, aggressive and energetic, they scratch at the canvas surface like open wounds, glowing with heat and intensity.....The large scale of the paintings adds to the drama and all-encompassing feel I wanted to achieve. Standing in front of them you see nothing in your peripheral vision, just the hellish scene in front of you. You are for a moment, within that maelstrom, as I was. The large scale also allows to become far more involved in the painting physically. There are huge gestural strokes, for which I used the whole body literally to blast the paint onto the surface. It's a truly intense expression of underlying emotions and pain. Exorcising demons."

Taxidermy artist Polly Morgan @ The Other Art Fair

Following on from Tracey Emin’s popular collaboration with the spring edition of the fair, The Other Art Fair has announced that the special guest artist this autumn will be renowned taxidermy artist Polly Morgan.

Taxidermy as an art form is experiencing a revival and Morgan’s work is the most eagerly sought after by a host of important collectors including Damien Hirst, Thomas Olbricht, Omer Koc and Anita Zabludowicz. For The Other Art Fair, Morgan has created five limited edition hand-coloured gravure prints, featuring new works that tread the line between figuration and abstraction.

The prints are available to purchase exclusively for visitors to The Other Art Fair in signed and numbered editions of 50. Priced at £289, they present an opportunity to own an exclusive but affordable work of art by Britain’s foremost taxidermy artist.

Polly Morgan says of the prints:
It was important for me to hand colour them to draw attention to the contrasting surfaces, colours and textures, and to clearly define the negative space within the loops’.

The forthcoming edition of The Other Art Fair runs between 16th and 19th October 2014 and will take place at the Old Truman Brewery, E1.

HANG-UP GALLERY WITH MARK POWELL AT MONIKER ART FAIR

After last year’s successful participation, Hang-Up returns with East London artist Mark Powell to debut his exclusive new cutting-edge collection. Mark has returned to painting after many years to reveal a more personal, experimental insight to his work. Found objects such as 1920’s apple boxes, coffee sacks and road signs will be the new canvas for his avant-garde oil paintings that combine colourful text, bold brushstrokes, and his masterly skill for intricate drawing. The poetic titles often used in his previous works have now been brought to life with vibrant colour and composition that are an intimate reflection on the human condition.

Mark Powell is internationally celebrated for his exquisite Bic biro drawings on vintage documents, manuscripts and postcards that were subject of his sellout show ‘Drawing on History’ at Hang-Up Gallery last year. Since then his work has been in high demand. He has received sell out exhibitions in numerous London galleries, including The London Illustration Fair, Curios Duke Gallery, Bear Cub Gallery and a recent summer group show at the prestigious Castle Galleries in Mayfair, where his works were the first to sell out on the opening night.

The body of work to be displayed at Moniker 2014 will be a prelude for his upcoming solo show at Hang-Up Gallery entitled Human Traffic on view from 29 Nov to 17 Jan 2015.

Moniker Art Fair returns for its fifth year, having firmly established itself as London’s premier event for contemporary art with its roots embedded in urban culture. Hang-Up Gallery has had a long-standing relationship with the fair, and considers it an ideal platform to represent their creativity and passion as a gallery.
