JR returns to London after five years with a two-part solo exhibition, ACTIONS, at Lazarides Rathbone and multiple sites across the nation's capital.
Works within the gallery will highlight various actions JR has accomplished around the globe and will include images from Wrinkles of the City in Berlin (spring 2013), his journey to North Korea and his 2005 Portrait of a Generation. On display will be a mix of colour prints as well as his signature wood mounted monochromatic paper pieces telling the story of JR's global initiative to employ art as a tool for global communication and understanding.
Out on the streets of the city, JR invites Londoners to become part of the world's largest public art project. Spurred by his award of the 2011 TED prize and subsequent TED Conference, JR's INSIDE OUT project gives each and everyone within the community a chance to create their own black and white portrait in the travelling photobooth truck, where images of participants will be subsequently printed as large posters and pasted on to various iconic London sites. JR asks us all to become the subject, protagonist, passer-by and interpreter in this global artwork.
